The team of officers from the Department of Social Welfare & Community Development (DSWCD) collaborated with the Ghana Health Service to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness at the International Central Gospel Church, Somanya.
The department in collaboration with Action Aid Ghana sensitized the community members and PWDs at New Somanya on Sexual Gender Based Violence and the mandate of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development.
Other topics discussed were proper child care, people living with disability and positive parenting
During our community engagements, most of the participants appreciated the education and wished the team could reach a larger number.
They agreed that children needed the love and care in order to develop and grow into responsible adult.
Community members also resolved to take care of their children.
They understood that child protection is a shared responsibility.
The flash cards on Maize plant and circle of support were the tools used. Community members have become more aware of child protection issues and are willing to be agents of change.
They were encouraged to report cases of sexual gender based violence to the Department for action to be taken.
