GHS ROLLS OUT SECOND PHASE OF NATIONAL VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

The Ghana Health Service (GHS), on Thursday, the 21st of April 2022 rolled out its second phase of its National Vaccination campaign in Somanya in the Eastern Region which was said to be one of the areas to have recorded low vaccination so far.
The first phase of the National Vaccination campaign was rolled out in February and as of April 14th, 2022, it was indicated that about 14 million Ghanaians were believed to have taken the dose and according to the Eastern Regional Health Director, Dr. Winfred K. Ofosu 36.8% of the estimated Eastern Region population of 2 million took their first dose.
According to the Director General of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma- Aboagye, the five days education campaign was to whip interest in the population and expected to reach about 2 million more of the targeted population.
To achieve this therefore,mobile clinics would be activated to help in the campaign exercise to compliment the public health facilities and other fixed designation posts for the vaccination campaign.
It was indicated, that so far Ghana had taken delivery of 30 million COVID-19 vaccines and out of which about 20 million had been deplored to the districts for administration.
Persons fully vaccinated as of 14th April 2022 therefore stood at 5.6 million approximately of the Ghanaian population.
Ghanaians were there urged to take the vaccines as the vaccines were proven to be safe in order to guard against new variant. It was cautioned, that when more people to not take the vaccine it makes it possible for the virus to spread and mutate.
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital which was constructed by VAMED Engineering LTD with its local partner BATTES and technically handed over to the Eastern Regional Health Directorate on the 29th of June 2021 was also commissioned and started working effective Thursday, the 21st of April 2022 On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Yilo Krobo Municipality, Hon. Eric Tetteh indicated that as of 21st April 2022, and with the 71,215 persons constituting 63% as eligible for vaccination, persons fully vaccinated in the Yilo Krobo Municipality stood at 13,708 representing 19.2%, and those with single dose were 24,095 representing 33.8% with 319 persons representing 0.4% who took the BOOSTER dose.
